Christ Church SU has urged students to ‘look out for one another’ after a woman was found dead at the University of Kent (UKC).
An 18 year old woman was found dead at her University of Kent (UKC) accommodation. According to Kent Online the teenager was found less than 24 hours after registering at the university.
Emergency services rushed to Tyler Court halls where the woman was found at 8.30am on Sunday 17th September, but was pronounced dead by ambulance crews.
Nick Beard, CCCU’s Student Activities president said: “Tragic news that reminds us all to stay vigilant and look out for one another, whether its something as small as texting your friend when you return home or just knocking on your roommate’s door to say goodnight.”
“Our thoughts are with the girl’s family and friends.”
Molly Hope, a student at UKC, was working as a welcome helper as the new students arrived.
She said: “We arrived Sunday morning to continue helping students moving in but there were ambulances and police cars outside of Tyler Court.
“We were informed that there had been an incident and access to the flat in question was blocked off.”
A UKC spokesperson said: “We can confirm the death of a female student at our Canterbury campus on September 17.
“Next of kin have been informed and support is available for students and staff. Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.”
Police are not treating the incident as suspicious and are preparing a report for the coroner.
