Steinbeck & Shaw shut early and police called after crowd disturbance

A popular nightclub had to shut its doors early after queue troubles resorted to police being called.

Steinbeck & Shaw, in New Dover Road, was shut over an hour early after people began to push one another while waiting in line for entry.

Police were called at 11.21pm Monday night ‘following reports of a disturbance’.

A spokesperson for Kent Police said: “On arrival there were concerns for the safety of a large number of people who were trying to gain entry to the club.

“Kent Police worked with the venue to ensure public safety by dispersing the large crowd.”

No arrests were made and enquiries into the incident are ongoing.

The nightclub issued a statement explaining they rang the police to assist them in protecting customers.

A spokesperson for Steinbeck & Shaw said: “The safety and enjoyment of our customers is always our main priority. Due to the popularity of the night, a large queue formed outside the venue.

“As a result of pushing from the back, we decided to ask for Police assistance to protect customers. The queue and venue were safely dispersed and no one was injured.”
