See inside the Victorian prison where CCCU’s Summer Ball will be held

We take a look around this year’s Summer Ball venue, Canterbury’s ex prison which saw it’s last inmate leave just four years ago.

Christ Church’s 2017 Summer Ball will be held inside the Canterbury Prison walls as students and staff descend on the former category C institution for an end of year celebration. With live celebrity performances and DJ’s it’s a world away from days when The Cray twins and “Mad” Frankie Fraser were prisoners inside the very same walls.

The prison which closed in 2013 was bought by CCCU in 2014 who have plans to develop the site and extend their existing North Holmes Road campus. When the site is finished the university will be able to offer a wider variety of courses including some engineering degrees.
