Earth Hour: A candlelit feast under the stars

Over 60 CCCU students share a candlelit feast with food from different cultures to take part in Earth Hour.

Around the globe, millions of people, businesses, and landmarks set aside an hour to host events. They switch off their lights, and make noise for climate change action during Earth Hour to show our reliance on power.

Present of Student Activities, Nick Beard organised the event for students to come together and try different foods from other cultures. Every dish was handmade prepared by a CCCU student (all reimbursed).

Nick Beard, says: “The best part was watching as people from other cultures tasted and spoke about other students foods. My personal favourite moment was when I tried the fantastic Algerian dish Chakhchoukha!

“Thanks to everyone who joined us and to those who cooked delicious dishes for everyone!”

The event also fundraised money that goes to Shelterbox, a charity that provides emergency shelter and tools for families robbed of their homes by disaster.

The event took place on March 25 at Rigby Court where students left with full stomachs and high spirits.

Nick is looking to organise a similar event in the future because of the great response and high turn out.
